January 13, 2023

Team Scotland’s Birmingham 2022 Opening Ceremony outfits received worldwide recognition as designer Siobhan Mackenzie took top honours in two categories for the tartan and outfits at the 16th International Design Awards.

Siobhan designed both men’s and women’s outfits, which featured a scaled-up bespoke tartan design with colours synonymous with both Team Scotland and Birmingham 2022. The design had already met with praise from Team Scotland’s athletes, with the team also voted ‘best dressed country’ at the Opening Ceremony.

Winner of the awards for Textile Design and Uniform Design for her work with Team Scotland, Siobhan lifted a third award in the Sustainable Fashion category for her Repurpose collection, a womenswear ready-to-wear collection made out of leftover remnant silk fabrics.

Following on the back of being named Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2022 Scottish Women’s Awards, Siobhan was delighted to add to her accolades, saying:

“I’m thrilled to have won three international design awards, two of which are for my work on the Team Scotland Commonwealth Games parade uniform. It’s a privilege to have the passion, love and care that I put into this project recognised on a global scale- what a great way to start the year.”

Established in 2007, the International Design Awards attracts thousands of entries from almost 80 countries, recognising and celebrating exceptional design and emerging talent in Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic and Fashion Design.
