A fantastic ride from Millie Thomson in the Points Race saw Team Scotland claim their first medal of Trinbago 2023 in the velodrome on the opening day of Track Cycling competition.
Battling hard and picking up points in all six sprints, including a maximum five in sprint two, Millie battled throughout the race with Australian duo Lauren Bates and Keira Will, going into the final sprint tied on points with the latter. Bates took the final sprint to finish on 27 points with Will second across the line, taking silver with 19. Millie took third in the final sprint to seal bronze with 17 points.
There was also a fifth place for Evie White who put in a brave breakaway to take maximum points in sprint four, gaining half a lap on the field, but couldn’t press home her advantage and dropped back to rejoin the pack.
Sarah Johnson was in Sprint action, setting a new best time of 11.638 seconds to lead the qualifying. She then made easy work of her quarter-final against Marvellous Olawale of Nigeria, taking both races comfortably. She rides again in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Calum Moir and Elliot Rowe put on a brilliant display in the Individual Pursuit, clocking 3:23.775 and 3:26.978 respectively. Calum rides for gold tomorrow against Sam Fisher of Wales with Elliot in the bronze medal race where he faces Noah Blannin of Australia.
