Team Scotland Youth Trust

The Team Scotland Youth Trust is led by a Board consisting of an independent Chair, Company Secretary, two Directors appointed by CGS and three independent Directors. 

Gavin Hastings OBE – Chair

Gavin is a former amateur International rugby player for Scotland and the British & Irish Lions and worked as a Chartered Surveyor during his playing days firstly in Edinburgh followed by spells in London and then Glasgow.

Upon his retirement from playing he set up his own sports marketing consultancy working with high profile companies in the sponsorship sector. Amongst the highlights, was being instrumental in helping the Ryder Cup come to Scotland in 2014 as well as bringing Barcelona FC to play pre season friendlies against Hearts, Hibs and Dundee Utd in successive years.

Gavin joined the Board of TSYT in 2014 and has been active as a patron of a number of other charities during this time. He took over as Chair in late 2019 and oversaw the appointment of the three Independent Directors on the Board.

Michael Cavanagh OBE – Director (CGS appointed)

Michael is a former Scottish wrestler and represented Scotland at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, was Wrestling Coach at the 1994 Games and Wrestling Team Manager in 2002. Michael has managed British Teams at World Wrestling Championships and was the 2004 Olympic Wrestling Team Manager. He is a former President of the Scottish Wrestling Association and a former director of the British Wrestling Association Ltd.

In his professional capacity Michael is a Senior Manager with sportscotland, previously being in charge of the East of Scotland Institute of Sport.

Jen Barsby – Director (CGS appointed)

Jen Barsby has worked for Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) since July 2013, initially as Opportunities & Equalities Manager where she was responsible for member branches governance, safeguarding and equality. Currently as Performance Manager she manages the Scottish Boccia Programme, Cerebral Palsy Football Squad, SDS Athlete Academy, Classification and Clean Sport

Prior to working for SDS, she held roles as an Active Schools Co-ordintor and a Disability Sport Development Officer. In a voluntary capacity she has been Scottish National Boccia Squad Coach for 7 years, was a Games Maker at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and a Clydesider in Glasgow 2014. For the Gold Coast Games, Jen was the General Team Manager responsible for the Village.

Jen is excited to be part of the TSYT moving forward and is passionate about ensuring young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential in sport.

Jamie Giddins – Independent Director

Jamie Giddins is a University of Cambridge graduate who has a passion for sport, having represented Great Britain in Real Tennis and participating in Scottish Amateur Golf tournaments.

Jamie is currently the Corporate Finance Assistant Director at Acrisure, a global fintech leader empowering millions of ambitious business and individuals with the right solutions to grow boldly forward. Jamie’s experience in corporate finance, audits and strategic leadership will help TSYT as it continues to grow.

Katharine Ford – Independent Director

Katharine works in regulatory risk within the energy sector. She is an Affiliate member of CIMA and the IRM respectively and is a qualified Sports Therapist as well as having a background in charitable fundraising. Outside of her role within the TSYT, she is the current Chair of British Dodgeball.
During her cycling career, Katharine – a 4-time world record holder, became the first ever Briton to ride 12 hours or more on an indoor velodrome and is the first Scot to complete the 3000-mile Race Across America. She was also the first woman in her sport’s history to lead ultracycling globally, as WUCA’s President & Chair.

She has previously served on the Board of Advisors for Sported in Scotland, and the main boards of London disability sports body; Interactive, the 1948 Olympic velodrome regeneration body; the Herne Hill Velodrome Trust, and the World Ultra Cycling Association. In 2012, she carried the Olympic flame in London and is also an Ambassador for the Edinburgh Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Jill Davidson – Independent Director

Jill works as the Head of Marketing, Communications and Sales within Edinburgh Leisure. She runs strategic campaigns to boost the brand and engage the community. She has a strong background in marketing strategy and partnership management having previously worked as a Partnership Manager with Edinburgh Rugby and Commercial Manager at Scottish Rugby.

Jon Doig OBE – Company Secretary

Company Secretary of TSYT, Jon has been Chief Executive of Commonwealth Games Scotland since 2001 and is responsible for CGS management and leadership, overseeing team preparations, partnership and commercial programmes. He has managed Team Scotland at six Commonwealth Games and was Chef de Mission in 2010 and 2014. From 2002 he was centrally involved in the development and promotion of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid and in the management of Glasgow 2014 in a partner role from 2007.

Awarded an OBE in 2014 for services to sport, Jon previously worked for sportscotland as the Head of High Performance. His duties included developing the High Performance Sport Programme and policies, Commonwealth Games team support, development of the Scottish Institute of Sport where he acted as Interim Director on its establishment, and development of the Scottish Sport Hall of Fame.

A native of New Zealand, Jon previously worked for the Hillary Commission, the national sports agency of NZ, in the areas of coaching, sports science, Fair Play and Anti-Doping. His sporting background also includes senior team management roles at two World University Games and a background as a competitive swimmer and water polo player, winning NZ University honours.

Lisa Martin – Administrator

Lisa is a former professional rugby player, playing with Lille Metropole in the French top-flight and Saracens in the English Premiership. She captained the Scotland Women’s team for three years in an international career that saw her represent Scotland at Rugby World Cups, Six Nations and Autumn Internationals, earning 50 caps.

She joined Commonwealth Games Scotland in May 2025 following roles including Performance Sports Coordinator at the University of Edinburgh and, most recently, Senior Team Leader at the School of Hard Knocks, a sport for change charity for young people.
