Sir Craig Reedie 1941- 2026

April 10, 2026

Commonwealth Games Scotland are saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Craig Reedie.

A proud Scot who became a major figure in the world of sport, Reedie served with Badminton Scotland, first as a player at national level and then as Secretary and President. He linked into Commonwealth Games Scotland in this capacity after Badminton first appeared in the Commonwealth Games in 1966 and again in Edinburgh in 1970.

He became head of the Badminton World Federation and oversaw the sport’s entry to the Olympic Games in 1992. He later served as the chairman of the British Olympic Association, being central to the successful bid and then delivery of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Rising to the position of Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, he later became the third President of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Immensely influential and respected on the world stage, Sir Craig continued to support a range of sporting events in Scotland including the Commonwealth Games and played a key role through informal advice on the bid and delivery of the successful Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.  His wider impact on Badminton in Scotland was recognised the re-naming of the National Badminton Centre as the Sir Craig Reedie Centre in 2014.

We pass our sincere condolences to Lady Rosemary and family and to all of Sir Craig’s many friends and colleagues inside and out with sport. We will all miss his wit, counsel and support. His efforts and achievements on behalf of sport are testimony to his lasting impact.
