In late 2012 I became a Frontrunner volunteer helping to interview 25,000 potential Games time volunteers, the Clydesiders. From that initial involvement , so many wonderful opportunities developed. I was then selected as a Batonbearer Host for the Queen’s Baton Relay looking after so many truly memorable people across the length and breadth of Scotland on a journey lasting 42 days.

Those inspiring volunteer experiences led me into a world I never realised existed and I have now volunteered at many World sporting events in gymnastics, cycling, swimming and particularly athletics. I pop up at many sporting arenas, keeping them clean in my role as an anti-doping chaperone as well as other new and similarly interesting missions.

This week I begin my role in Paris for the Olympics; never did I imagine putting my hand up to volunteer would be such a wonderful experience that would present a fantastic personal legacy of volunteer opportunities and unique memories.
