January 25, 2011

Scotland’s Jocelyn Rae has been called up for Fed Cup duty by Great Britain following the withdrawal of the injured Laura Robson.

The 6ft 2in 19-year-old won gold for Team Scotland with Colin Fleming in the mixed doubles competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi in an epic final, beating the Australian top seeds.

Great Britain takes on Israel in a Euro/Africa Group I tie in Eilat over the weekend of 5-6 February. The team will now comprise of Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, Heather Watson and Nottinghamshire based Rae.

“This is a great opportunity for Jocelyn,” said GB’s Fed Cup team captain, Nigel Sears. “We’re looking forward to welcoming her into the team and to getting our Fed Cup campaign under way.”

GB, alongside 14 other nations, is vying to take the top two spots and progress to the World Group II play-offs in April.

Rae is currently 16th in the Lawn Tennis Association’s female rankings.
