Commonwealth Games Scotland today confirmed its final team line-up for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, announcing a record 310 athletes who have met the selection standards to represent the nation at this summer’s home Games.

The announcement includes the latest 102 athletes selected this week from eight sports. Sports newly announced today include Netball (12), Hockey (32) and Table Tennis (7), whilst additional athletes have been selected in Swimming (4), Athletics (31), Cycling (4), Shooting (8) and Triathlon (4). Athletics also name a replacement in the Marathon for the injured Freya Ross who withdrew earlier this week.

Nearly a third of the team (94) were involved in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, with 15 winning medals for Team Scotland in six sports: Eilidh Child, Steph Twell, Robbie Renwick, Hannah Miley, Josh Taylor, David Millar, Jenny Davis, Charlene Joiner, Jonathon Hammond, Jen McIntosh, Neil Stirton, Angus Macleod, Ian Shaw, Shona Marshall, Peter Kirkbride. The strength in depth of the team is further underlined with the inclusion of eight more medallists from previous Commonwealth Games as far back as 1990: Donna Robertson, Sarah Clark, Fiona Robertson, Caitlin McClatchey, Adam Cox, Margaret Letham, Alex Marshall and Paul Foster.

21 athletes have an Olympic pedigree with 19 of them competing in London in 2012, with three Olympic medallists amongst them in Craig MacLean (2000), Emily McGuire (2012) and Daniel Purvis (2012). Craig MacLean uniquely also holds a Paralympic Gold medal from London 2012 as a Cycling pilot, whilst Neil Fachie and Aileen McGlynn from Cycling, Libby Clegg and guide Mikail Huggins from Athletics are also Paralympic multi-medallists.

The longest serving team members are from Lawn Bowls, with Alex Marshall and Margaret Letham both embarking on their fifth Games, holding three Gold medals between them. Margaret from Bothwell, at 58 years old is also the oldest member of the team. Taking the spot for the youngest team member of all time is 13 year old Erraid Davies, a Para-Sport Swimmer from Shetland. She will be a year younger than diver Grace Reid, who was 14 years and 5 months when she competed in Delhi in 2010.

The team of 310 is split 168 men and 142 women, which is encouraging news in terms of the gender balance, with the percentage of women increasing from 43% in 2010 to nearly 46% this year. In Athletics, and Weightlifting more women have been selected than their male counterparts. A total of 204 athletes will be making their Games debut.

Also showing their valuable contribution to the development of athletes in the Glasgow 2014 team are the Commonwealth Youth Games and the Achieve 2014 programme which ran in Delhi. 35 selected athletes have competed in the Youth Games over recent years, whilst 10 athletes, three coaches and six support staff from the Achieve programme have made the step up to Team Scotland this year. We are delighted that these opportunities will continue, with the next Youth Games in Samoa in 2015 and the next iteration of the Achieve programme being run in Glasgow thanks to the support of Games and Team Scotland sponsor, Search Consultancy. In addition, 10 former athletes are now members of staff and will have invaluable experience to share with the current crop of athletes.

The team of twelve netball players announced today will make Team Scotland’s first ever appearance in the Netball competition at a Commonwealth Games. Currently placed 12th in the World, Scottish netball has seen a huge rise in its ranking improving from 16th back in 2011. With confidence high following qualification for the 2015 World Cup ten days ago, Lesley MacDonald’s side are aiming for a top eight finish in Glasgow.

In Hockey, Scotland will be looking to use home support at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green, to build on their previous Games outings and be competitive against some of the top hockey nations in the world. The men’s side, captained by GB player Chris Grassick, will be looking to improve on Scotland’s 9th place finish in Delhi, after credible showings recently against England, Argentina and Belgium at the Men’s 4 Nations in Glasgow and a series win over Wales. The women’s team, led by the experienced Linda Clement is preparing for some tough opposition in Australia, England, Malaysia and local rivals Wales and are aiming to better their 2010 7th spot.

Triathlon was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and following an absence at the Delhi 2010 Games, returns with both individual and relay events held at the scenic setting of Strathclyde Country Park. The Individual Triathlons on Thursday 24 July are the first medal events of the Commonwealth Games and Team Scotland have called-up World Junior medallists Marc Austin and Grant Sheldon for the men’s competition, to complement the experienced David McNamee selected last October. Then on Saturday 26 July, making its Commonwealth debut is the Mixed Team Triathlon Relay, a fast-paced tag-team event will see two of the men joined by three-time Scottish Sprint Triathlon Champion Natalie Milne and 2012 British Triathlon Super Series Champion, Seonaid Thompson for the 250m swim, 6.6km cycle and 1.6km run.

A team of seven players (four men and three women) have been selected to represent Team Scotland at Table Tennis, a relative newcomer to the Games. It was introduced in Manchester 2002 and has been in the Games ever since. Strong results at the 2013 Commonwealth Championships secured team places for both men and women and demonstrated that they can raise their game when it counts.

With a final push by athletes to achieve selection standards over recent weeks, Athletics, Swimming and Cycling have all increased their already largest teams to date, whilst Shooting doubled the number selected last October. Athletics becomes the biggest single sport with 58 athletes now on their way to Hampden Park.

Congratulating all the athletes, Commonwealth Games Chairman Michael Cavanagh said: “When the selection period opened just over a year ago, we laid down a challenge to the athletes to meet the tough selection standards required to be selected for Team Scotland at Glasgow 2014. The lure of a home Games and the chance to compete in front of friends and family at the biggest multi-sport events to be held in this country has inspired so many to achieve above and beyond the standards required. I wish everyone all the best in their final preparations and look forward to some equally impressive performances in Glasgow.

“I would also like to thank all our partners in sportscotland, the national agency for sport and our member sports governing bodies for working closely with us to ensure that the selection process has been conducted fairly and smoothly and that the athletes are in the best possible shape for the final phase of our collective Commonwealth Games journey that has been 12 years in the making.”

Team Scotland Chef de Mission, Jon Doig added: “Our aim was to select our largest team ever meeting the tough selection standards and clearly athletes in all sports have risen to the occasion. This however is just the first step and our focus now turns to ensuring we are the best prepared team ever, capable of delivering our best ever performance, competing with distinction across all sports. Looking at the athletes we have selected I am confident that we can achieve our target of at least 34 medals.

“Thanks also to Glasgow 2014 and the other Games partners, Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government, for working closely with us to ensure that our vision of an athlete centred Games will be realised.”

Cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison said: “Congratulations to all of Team Scotland’s athletes, this is an incredible milestone in your career. Stepping out in front of a home crowd will be an extraordinary experience, a shared moment with the people of Scotland that will be remembered for years to come.

“These are our athletes representing all of Scotland at what will be the greatest Games ever. Backed by the enthusiastic and loud Scottish fans, encouraging Team Scotland towards to their most ambitious medal target ever, this is going to be a spectacular Games for Scottish sport.

“It’s not just the athletes who have been working hard in preparation for the Games. An integral part of Team Scotland are the coaches, specialists, trainers and families who have helped and supporting athletes behind the scenes. They deserve recognition too, as do the volunteers and people working in the community to find the Team Scotland of the future.

“sportscotland and the Scottish Government have made more resources than ever available to support high performance athletes in Scotland, ensuring Team Scotland is ready and prepared for the challenge of the Commonwealth Games.”

Louise Martin CBE, Chair of sportscotland, said: “Over the last few weeks and months we have seen Team Scotland grow, to the point that today the full team of 310 athletes has been unveiled, all determined to represent their country as best they can, in front of proud supporters, in first-class sporting venues.

“Every single one of these athletes has made the team because they have reached the levels required to compete in word-class sport. We are able to prepare world-class athletes across a range of individual and team sports thanks to the collaboration between the high performance support services provided by our experts and practitioners at the sportscotland institute of sport and the Scottish governing bodies of sport.

“With world-class experts working with world-class athletes, we have every reason to be excited about Team Scotland’s prospects at what promises to be the best ever Games.”

Glasgow 2014 today (Wednesday, 4 June) revealed the city’s spectacular new world-class athletics arena following the stunning transformation of Hampden Park.

The centrepiece at the heart of the Games, Scotland’s National Stadium will stage some of the most thrilling moments of the competition, with more than a thousand athletes going all out for gold and glory in over 48 events in seven days.

Hampden Park is already a legendary venue and scene of many international moments of intense sporting drama but months of construction were required to prepare it to host Athletics at next month’s Commonwealth Games.

The stadium’s stunning technologically-led transformation is now complete and features a revolutionary solution which has raised its surface by almost two metres, gaining the width and length required for an IAAF-approved Athletics track.

Along with the track, a full infield complete with freshly-cut grass sits on a temporary deck made up of 1,000 base panels which are supported by over 6,000 structural steel stilts. The recognisable Mondo track surface has been laid and lanes marked with the Glasgow 2014 start and finish lines painted in position.

The finished works, which saw approximately eight rows of seats removed to accommodate the wider field of play, revealed for the first time the close proximity that crowds of fans will have to the intense sporting action.

This is the first time this technology has been used on this scale to deliver a world-class Athletics event and it will enable elite athletes from 71 nations and territories to battle it out in front of a packed crowd of over 40,000 in the stadium and more than one billion TV viewers worldwide.

With IAAF approval, the approach is already being termed the ‘Glasgow solution’ in worldwide Athletics circles, with widespread interest in the potential it creates for a range of venues to host world-class athletics events.

The track works at Hampden and Lesser Hampden have been successfully undertaken by Glasgow-based construction company Malcolm Construction, Official Construction Provider for Glasgow 2014.

Olympic Steeplechaser and Team Scotland athlete Eilish McColgan said:

“There’s less than 50 days to go until Glasgow 2014 and standing here in Hampden definitely makes it seem real. The transformation is amazing and I think the reaction of a lot of the athletes will simply be ‘wow’.

“My mum has told me all about the unbelievable atmosphere and overwhelming support of the crowd when she competed and won gold in front of a home crowd at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and I know that’s a standout memory of all her races throughout the years.

“I’m just so excited at the prospect of competing in a home Games and she’s told me the support I’ll have from the Scottish crown as a Scottish athlete will be on another level.

“Having the ‘Hampden Roar’ behind me as I push down the home straight will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I can’t wait to give it my all and do my very best.”

Michael Cavanagh, Chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, said:

“It is hugely exciting to the spectacular change of Scotland’s National Stadium complete in such good time for the Games. Hampden, with its bold, innovative transformation to an Athletics venue is truly amazing and I know all our track and field athletes will be thrilled to step out into this magnificent Athletics arena filled with home support.”

Glasgow 2014 today (Wednesday, 4 June) unveiled Arnold Clark as the latest member of the Sponsor Family for the Commonwealth Games.

Arnold Cark will be an Official Provider for the Games in relation to Vehicle Rental, Fleet Storage, Vehicle Training and Valet Services.

This will include the provision of office space, vehicle storage for the Games Fleet of Ford vehicles, as well as cleaning and valet services.

Arnold Clark will also supply training staff to support the Glasgow 2014 Driver Training programme and will assist in the commissioning and decommissioning of the Games fleet of cars from and back to Ford.

Headquartered in Glasgow, the company was founded by Sir Arnold Clark in the 1950s, and now comprises 200 locations and 9,000 staff across the UK with an annual turnover of £2bn.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Arnold Clark into the Glasgow 2014 Sponsor family. As a leading UK business, headquartered and rooted in Glasgow, Arnold Clark will deliver transport support and services integral to the success of the Games. The Games are Glasgow and Scotland’s opportunity to shine on a global stage and we look forward to welcoming the Commonwealth for a celebration of sport and culture.”

Sir Arnold Clark, Chairman and Chief Executive, said:

“As a business Arnold Clark has always looked for ways to sponsor and develop local projects, activities and businesses; with that in mind we are thrilled to be able to sponsor an event as prestigious as the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. We are honoured to be part of such a momentous occasion and very proud to be able to host the Commonwealth Committee at our GTG training centre.

“Working with the 2014 Games committee has given us the opportunity to celebrate our Glasgow heritage and we look forward to supporting the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”

Glasgow 2014 has started work on its flagship store in the city’s George Square. It has also opened its first official pop-up retail kiosks in Buchanan Galleries and the St Enoch Shopping Centre.

The superstore in the heart of Glasgow will sell a large range of official Games merchandise and will open for business on 28 June. Extending to around 12,500 sq ft, the specially designed shop will also stock a number of special edition products which would normally only be available at Games venues.

All Team Scotland merchandise will be available in the shop which is one of more than 40 retail units which will operate across the city and in venues.

Situated in two of Glasgow’s busiest shopping hubs, the pop-up kiosks will stock a wide range of official merchandise including Glasgow 2014 and Team Scotland clothing for adults and kids, souvenirs such as mugs, key rings and pin badges as well as replicas of our cheeky mascot Clyde.

The kiosks, which will be open seven days a week, until the middle of August, give sports fans another chance to get their hands on official Glasgow 2014 merchandise, which is already on sale from the official outlet store in Central Station. Merchandise can also be bought online at https://shop.glasgow2014.com//.

The store and kiosks, are creating new jobs as part of a drive which will see several hundred temporary jobs created in Glasgow to handle the sale of official Commonwealth Games merchandise.

David Grevemberg, Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014, said:

“Starting the build on the Glasgow 2014 superstore on George Square takes us another step closer to the Games becoming a reality. Shoppers will be able to buy their own little piece of Games history and by including the special edition products we can ensure as many people as possible enjoy the full Games experience. Our first official pop-up shopping centre kiosks – in Buchanan Galleries and St Enoch Centre – are also in a great location and should be extremely popular with Games fans, tourists and shoppers.

“For many people arriving in Glasgow for the Games, the kiosks and retail stores will be their first experience of Glasgow 2014 and we are confident it will be a memorable one.”

Thousands are expected to celebrate the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games at venues including Glasgow Green and the newly refurbished Kelvingrove Bandstand.

The special celebratory events will include live music, special guests and will allow revellers to watch all the action from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at Celtic Park and Hampden live on big screens.

Lulu will lead the line-up at Glasgow Green for the Opening Ceremony, with a host of Scotland’s finest musicians, including Eddi Reader, James Grant, Rab Noakes, Sarah Hayes, Roddy Hart & the Lonesome Fire, Emma Pollock and RM Hubbert. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the very best Scottish food and drink at Glasgow Green with Scotland’s finest ingredients being showcased at a food village.

Lulu, who is headlining the Opening Ceremony Celebration at Glasgow Green said:

“The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are going to be amazing. Glasgow has much to shout about this year – and I look forward to cheering our sporting heroes on to success at the Games.

I am delighted to join thousands of Glaswegians and those from across the Commonwealth on Glasgow Green to celebrate the opening of such a momentous event. My home city has an incredible, worldwide reputation for friendliness and enjoying a good-old get together. The Opening Ceremony Celebration on Glasgow Green is the perfect occasion to invite everyone to join the party.”

To reflect the Commonwealth Games’ partnership with UNICEF, the leading children’s organisation, for every ticket bought for the Opening Ceremony celebration at Glasgow Green, £1 will be donated to the charity to support its work with children in Scotland and throughout the Commonwealth.

The Closing Ceremony celebration will give everyone a chance to relive the highlights of the Games in an enormous, outdoor occasion with Treacherous Orchestra leading a rousing party on Glasgow Green, along with surprise and special guests to see out the Games in style.

The recently reopened Kelvingrove Bandstand will be the focus of celebrations in the west of the city, with an Opening Ceremony party featuring Belle and Sebastian. The band was instrumental in calling for the £2.1 million refurbishment of the historic bandstand.

The Closing Ceremony at the bandstand opens with a new commission from Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, performing with Tam Dean Burn and multi-instrumentalist, Corey Mwamba. There will also be rousing classical music from Scottish Opera and others before the screening of the Closing Ceremony.

Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch, said:

“The bandstand at Kelvingrove Park is like a dream within a dream. We are very pleased to be playing there.”

The Opening Ceremony celebrations at Glasgow Green and Kelvingrove Bandstand will mark the start of 12 days of live entertainment at both venues with hundreds of performers appearing throughout the duration of the Games. Outwith the Opening and Closing Ceremony events at these venues, access will be free. For the latest information about performances, locations and times, please go to www.glasgow2014.com/culture

The wheels are in motion towards Commonwealth Games success after 30 cyclists have been selected today to represent Team Scotland at Glasgow 2014. This is the largest ever cycling squad assembled for Team Scotland at a Commonwealth Games and takes Team Scotland to its biggest ever Games team with 208 athletes selected so far.

Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS), in conjunction with Scottish Cycling announced the 16 men and 14 women to compete in Track, Road and Mountain Bike events.

Cycling was first introduced in 1934 and has featured at every Commonwealth Games since with Mountain Biking added in 2002. Scotland has amassed an impressive 11 cycling medals at the past three Commonwealth Games and in Glasgow, no fewer than 23 Gold medals are available over seven days of cycling competition, starting with the exhilarating track cycling in the purpose-built Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome from 24 to 27 July.

Sir Chris won four Commonwealth Games medals for Team Scotland – including two Gold – during an incredible track cycling career and the Velodrome which bears his name will showcase 17 events, with Para-Sport Cycling making its Commonwealth debut.

Track cycling kicks off the action on day one of the Games and returning medallists Charline Joiner, James McCallum and Jenny Davis will be out to achieve further success, as will recently crowned World Team Pursuit Champion Katie Archibald. Making her Commonwealth Games debut, Katie will compete in all endurance events and will take every chance to add to her already impressive list of achievements in her short time in the sport.

Paralympian Aileen McGlynn OBE will lead the Scottish charge, racing in both the sprint and time trial tandem events. McGlynn has competed at the last three Paralympic Games, winning an impressive six medals: three Gold, two Silver and one Bronze. A further 10 World Track Championship medals and a European Gold place McGlynn at the pinnacle of the sport for blind and visually impaired athletes. She will be partnered with tandem pilot Louise Haston. After only taking up the sport just over a year ago,Laura Cluxton and pilot Fiona Duncan, UCI World Cup Gold medallists, will also be competing for Team Scotland.

In the men’s tandem track events, two-time World Champion, London 2012 1km Time Trial Gold medallist and Individual Sprint Silver medallist Neil Fachie MBE is gunning for gold. He will be piloted by Craig MacLean MBE, a London 2012 Paralympic Gold medal winning pilot. Craig, the Team Scotland flag bearer in 2002, also holds a Team Sprint Olympic Silver medal from Sydney 2000 and won Bronze and Gold in the Team Sprint events at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Two road events, a Time Trial (31 July) and Road Race (3 August) will see the Commonwealth’s top cyclists race through the heart of Glasgow and surrounding areas.

The Time Trial will be a battle against the clock over a challenging route (40km for men, 30km for women) that will start and finish at Glasgow Green with a single loop course taking in the great countryside of East Dunbartonshire and North Lanarkshire as well as the city’s East End.

The Road Race course, also starting in Glasgow Green, features a 14km circuit taking riders along Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and St Vincent Street before carrying on to the west end of the city where they will pass through Kelvingrove Park and circuit the west end before heading back towards the city centre and the finish. For the men’s race, competitors will complete 168km and lap the course 12 times. Female riders will complete 98km over seven laps.

At the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, road specialist David Millar took Road Race Bronze and finished in style with the Time Trial Gold. He would love to bow out with a win at a home Games.

Newcomer Katie Archibald, who started her racing career on a grass track in the Highlands, and has recently competed in the UK Women’s Tour will also be joined by her fellow team mates Eileen Roe, Charline Joiner and Claire Thomas to weave through the heart of the city of Glasgow.

In Mountain Biking, 2013 British National cross-country champions Grant Ferguson and Lee Craigie will make their return to Cathkin Braes on the 29 July alongside Gareth Montgomery, Kenta Gallagher and Jessie Roberts. The 5.5km Mountain bike course provides a tough cross-country test across a range of terrain just 20 minutes from the heart of the city.

Team Scotland Chef de Mission, Jon Doig said: “Scotland has always had a strong tradition in cycling and its popularity has gone from strength to strength on the back of the amazing achievements of Sir Chris Hoy and Craig MacLean, the accessibility of the magnificent velodrome in Glasgow and the determination of Scottish Cycling to maximise these fantastic opportunities.

“This 30-strong team is proof of the progress that has been made over the last four years and we look forward to some exciting action on the track, on the road and over the cross-country course at Cathkin Braes.”

Commenting on the Cycling Team announcement Gary Coltman, Scottish Cycling’s Head of Performance said: “Scottish Cycling is delighted to announce its largest ever cycling team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Since the Commonwealth Games in Delhi there has been a dramatic rise in participation in cycling throughout Scotland and I’m delighted to announce some exciting, emerging talent as part of our team for Glasgow.

“There is no doubt that success at the highest level plays a significant part in inspiring more people into sport, and a successful Commonwealth Games right here in Glasgow is an amazing prospect for the future of cycling. The home games are an opportunity of a lifetime for the Scottish riders involved, who are all unbelievably committed and determined to make Scotland proud and we are all thrilled about the opportunity Glasgow provides to contribute to yet further growth and future success of our wonderful sport.”

Cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison said: “Cycling at the 20th Commonwealth Games is set to be spectacular. Congratulations to all the athletes and support staff for their hard work and dedication to Scottish cycling. Whether they are competing at the iconic Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, in the natural beauty of the mountain bike trail at Cathkin Braes or riding through Glasgow’s striking cityscape as part of the road race, Scotland will be behind them all the way.”

Also welcoming the selections, Louise Martin CBE, chair of sportscotland said: “I am delighted to see 30 cyclists selected to represent Team Scotland and I congratulate them all. Cycling has really taken off in Scotland in recent years and as its popularity rises, so does the number of high performance cyclists able to compete at the top level on the track and on the road.

“One of the main reasons we are able to prepare world-class athletes across a range of sports is because of the high performance support services provided by sportscotland. With world-class experts, working with world-class athletes, we have every reason to be excited about Team Scotland’s prospects at what promise to be the best ever Games.”

This brings the total Team Scotland numbers to 208 with an anticipated final team size in the region of 270 athletes.

The Organising Committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has today (Wednesday, 26 May) confirmed the appointment of Mondo as the Official Provider of athletic track surface.

Hampden, Scotland’s National Stadium and Glasgow 2014’s athletics venue, already has a stunning new look with the transformation from the home of Scottish football into a world-class Athletics arena nearing completion.

Mondo has supplied the material for the athletics track surface, which will see the fastest athletes from around the Commonwealth go head to head this summer. Mondo is also providing specialist sports equipment that the athletes will use on the field of play.

A revolutionary solution has already raised the stadium surface by almost two metres, gaining the width and length required for the Athletics track, which has been laid section by section in 20 sqm roles at a time.

Around 14,000 square metres of pre-fabricated and pre-tested Mondo material has been laid inside Hampden, which will stage some of the most thrilling moments of the competition, with 48 events being held in the stadium across seven days.

A further 6,000sqm has been installed at Lesser Hampden, which will be the main warm-up area for athletes prior to competition.

Mondo has a successful history of supporting multi-sport Games and also provided athletics track surfaces at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, said:

“The solution we’re implementing to transform Scotland’s National Stadium is a world-first on such a scale and it’s great to have the quality of track material supplied by Mondo providing a first-class platform for the best athletes of the Commonwealth to shine.”

Maurizio Stroppiana, Mondo Sport&Flooring General Manager said:

“Glasgow has created a venue that is not only an engineering feat but a world-class example of environmental and social responsibility. Mondo is proud to be part of this achievement.”

Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) today announced the next 29 athletes selected to represent Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games this summer. Artistic Gymnastics, Judo, Weightlifting and Powerlifting athletes have been confirmed, following their nomination by the respective Scottish Governing Bodies of Sport and subsequent ratification by the CGS selection panel.

The group contains 22 Games debutants, three Commonwealth Games medallists, six former Youth Games athletes and three athletes who will compete in their home city.

A full squad of ten gymnasts (five men, five women) will compete for Team Scotland at the SSE Hydro, including London 2012 Bronze medallist Dan Purvis, who is one of six gymnasts making their Commonwealth Games debut. Three gymnasts will make the next step up to the senior ranks, having represented Youth Team Scotland at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man.

Winner of Team Scotland’s last Commonwealth Games medal in Gymnastics – High Bar Bronze in Melbourne 2006 – Adam Cox returns to the team along with Daniel Keatings, Amy Regan and Emma White. Frank Baines and Erin McLachlan join Purvis amongst the Games debutants, while Liam Davie, Cara Kennedy and Carly Smith will make the step up to the senior Games.

Judo returns to the Commonwealth Games for the first time since the 2002 Games in Manchester where Scottish athletes collected 10 medals and was Scotland’s most successful sport. Amongst those medallists were Graeme Randall (Gold), and David Somerville (Silver), who will act as Team Manager and Head Coach for the 14 athletes (7 men and 7 women) selected to represent Scotland at the SECC in July and they will undoubtedly be able to share their vast experience.

Sarah Clark (a Silver medallist in Manchester) and John Buchanan are the only judoka to have already competed for Team Scotland, and will make their second Commonwealth Games appearance some 12 years on, along with their 12 team-mates making their Games debut. Clark is one of five Olympians in the team alongside Euan Burton, James Austin, Chris Sherrington and Sally Conway.

Weightlifter Peter Kirkbride provided one of the highlights of Delhi 2010 with his Silver medal winning lift in the under-94kg competition, and will be looking to go one better in Glasgow. Peter is joined in the squad by three female athletes making their Commonwealth Games debut. Team Scotland will also make its first appearance in the Para-Sport Powerlifting competition with Michael ‘Micky’ Yule featuring in the Men’s Heavyweight competition.
