Robbie made his Team Scotland debut at the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games, winning a silver and two bronze medals. He first rose to prominence at senior level at the age of 17 when he anchored Scotland's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay team home to silver at Melbourne 2006.
Delhi 2010 was a stand out Games for Robbie as he took gold over the 200m Freestyle, once again taking silver as part of the 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay. His final Commonwealth Games medal came at Glasgow 2014 with a third 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay silver in succession.
At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Robbie, along with Dan Wallace, Callum Jarvis and James Guy beat the USA to gold in the 4Ã—200m Freestyle. Robbie's 2nd leg split of 1:45.98 was the fastest of his career. He went on the take an Olympic medal in 2016, swimming the heats for the silver medal winning 4 x 200m Relay squad.
