Jake Wightman

Geoff Wightman
Edinburgh AC / Loughborough
Jake made his Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland at Glasgow 2014, the year after winning the European Junior Championships. A second Games at gold Coast 2018 saw him take fourth place in the 800m and then go one better to bag a brilliant 1500m bronze on the final night of track and field. He made his move down the back straight and chased down Kenya's Elijah Manangoi and Timothy Cheruiyot, who finished one-two at the 2017 World Championships, to take bronze.

Jake rounded out a hugely successful 2018 by taking bronze in the 1500m at the European Championships in Berlin. 2019 saw him make the final of the 1500m at the World Championships, finishing 5th, while in 2020 he followed up with a Scottish record of 3:29.47 at the Monaco Diamond League. A second place finish behind Edinburgh AC clubmate Josh Kerr in a thrilling Olympic Trials race saw him claim his place at Tokyo 2020 where he made the 1500m final, finishing 10th.

He came into Birmingham 2022 as the World Champion over 1500m after a stunning win in Oregon. In what was a packed few weeks, he added Commonwealth Games bronze and European Championships silver to round out the most successful year of his career to date.
