Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist in 2011, Charlie went one better at Glasgow 2014, winning gold in the Lightweight division to the delight of the home crowd. His fabulous post event interviews won the hearts of the nation with catchphrases like “buzzing like a jar of wasps,” as well as thanking the crowd that “looked like ants but roared like lions.”
Charlie made his professional debut in December 2014 with a win over Ibrar Riyaz and has remained undefeated in his 12 professional bouts to date. He was nicknamed “The Mailman” during Glasgow 2014 in reference to the fact that he worked in the Royal Mail sorting office in the run up to the Games and he has kept this nickname into his professional career.
