Team Scotland has announced their men’s and women’s 3×3 Basketball Running and Wheelchair squads who will take to the court at Glasgow 2026 after strong showings on the sport’s Commonwealth Games debut four years ago at Birmingham 2022.
In the running game, Team Scotland’s men took 4th place in Birmingham, missing out to Canada in the bronze medal game by a single point, while the women finished 5th. The women’s wheelchair team were equally close to the podium, with England just pipping them to bronze by 2 points. Team Scotland will field a men’s wheelchair 3×3 team for the first time in Glasgow. All four teams will be aiming for the podium this summer, in search of Team Scotland’s first Commonwealth Games medal in a team sport.
Kyle Jimenez and Fraser Malcolm return for a third Games, having both been part of Team Scotland’s fourth place finishes at Birmingham 2022 and at Gold Coast 2018, where the more familiar 5v5 version of the game was contested. Both were also part of Caledonia Gladiators’ historic win in the British Basketball League Trophy in 2023, one of the most memorable moments in the club’s history. The men’s team is completed by Cheshire Phoenix captain Skyler White and Bristol Flyers captain Owen McCormack, recently named the Super League Basketball most improved player of the year.
Kyle said: “This will be my third Games, but we are all super excited that we are going to be on home soil with our friends and family there. My favourite thing is putting on my Scotland jersey and hearing the anthem before the game so maybe winning a medal with friends and family there would be top level.”
Claire Paxton and Hannah Robb return for a second Games, with the duo having been an integral part of the Great Britain 3×3 programme since Birmingham 2022. Rounding out the women’s team, Kirsty Brown and Ella Doherty will make their Commonwealth Games debut both honing their skills in the US Collegiate system before returning closer to home.
Claire said: “3×3 has grown massively since the last Games so I think the competition is going to be harder. We want to represent ourselves well and enjoy the experience. The freedom of the game allows you just to go out there, be fearless and play hard. You never know what could happen.”
Team Scotland’s men’s wheelchair team will make their first Games appearance, having narrowly missed out on qualification four years ago. Rising stars Finlay Erskine and Shayne Humphries, both aged 20, bring recent international experience; Erskine from the inaugural IWBF 3×3 Open World Championships and Humphries from a silver medal at the 2025 World University Games. At the opposite end of the age-scale is Ross McConnell, who will make his Commonwealth Games debut age 47. The team is completed by Tyler Baines, who has made the switch to Team Scotland after bronze at Birmingham 2022 with England.
Finlay said: “It’s the highest level that we can play wheelchair Basketball for Scotland so this is really the top of the top for us. It’s a really big step in my career and it’s going to be amazing.”
World and European medallist and Glasgow 2026 Ambassador, Robyn Love leads a strong women’s wheelchair team, joined by fellow Paris 2024 Paralympian Jodie Waite, Lea Smith and Kayli English, who won silver with the GB team at the 2025 European Championships.
Love will be bringing her years of experience to the court and the coaching set-up for Glasgow taking on both roles this time. Mark Stevenson will lead the men’s wheelchair 3×3 team at his first Games, bringing experience as Head Coach of Lothian Phoenix and lead for the Scottish National Academy.
In the running game, Donnie MacDonald will lead the women’s 3×3 team, having coached Scotland at Birmingham 2022 and currently serving as Caledonia Gladiators women’s Head Coach. Gareth Murray will lead the men’s 3×3 team, bringing Commonwealth Games experience from 2006 and 2018 as a player, and from Birmingham 2022 as a player and coach.
The programme will also be supported by Professor Stephen Bird, Performance Team Lead, who will work across the squads to support athlete preparation and performance planning.
Elinor Middlemiss MBE, Team Scotland Chef de Mission, said: “After 3×3 debuting in Birmingham four years ago it is great to see Scotland represented in both disciplines in the men’s and women’s competitions. The atmosphere in the SEC should be electric and I am sure our selected athletes are going to put on a great show and wear the jersey with pride and passion.”
Following the strong reception from fans to its first Commonwealth Games appearance, the 3×3 Basketball programme has been expanded for Glasgow 2026, with eight teams per gender in the wheelchair game and 12 per gender in the running game, demonstrating the rapid growth and rising global appeal of the exciting format.
