Scots at Paris 2024: Day 16

August 11, 2024

It’s the final day of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with two Scots still in with a chance of picking up the last medals.

Day 15 Round Up

Scottish Taekwondo athlete Rebecca McGowan cruised through her first round of the Women’s 67+ category against Fiji’s Venice Elizabeth Megan Traill, before facing Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipova in the quarterfinals. Osipova proved too strong, beating McGowan 2-0, but the Scot had another chance by qualifying for the repechage. She faced Côte d’Ivoire’s Astan Katherine Feghe Bathily and secured a 2-0 win, making it into one of the bronze medal contests. However, McGowan fell short and was beaten by Türkiye’s Nafia Kus Aydin, meaning she ranked 5th overall.

A successful first round of heats saw Scottish cyclist Jack Carlin place second and progress to the Men’s Keirin quarterfinal at the National Velodrome.

Laura Muir faced her 1500m final and placed 5th overall with a time of 3:53.37, a personal best.

The women’s 4x400m Relay team featuring Scottish athlete Nicole Yeargin matched the men’s equivalent team just ten minutes after their race when they secured a bronze medal for Team GB in their final race.

Day 16 Preview

Neah Evans is first up as she will take on the Women’s Omnium scratch race, before hopefully progressing to the tempo race, elimination race and the points race.

The men’s Keirin quarterfinals are on the horizon for Jack Carlin, which if he is successful, will lead him to the semifinals and potentially finals.
