Scots in Action - PBs for Megan and Sarah at World Road Champs

September 21, 2026

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Scottish athletes, and for others their wait to compete continues just a few more days.

At the World Road Running Championships Megan Keith went out hard in the 5K and led the pack in the opening stages before finishing in 15th position with a personal best of 15:19.

Megan, who won bronze for Team Scotland at Glasgow 2026 for Team Scotland in the Women’s 5,000m, said: “My gameplan went out the window when I accidentally found myself at the front.

“It didn’t seem like anyone was keen and then all of a sudden they switched on and it was a shock to the system and tried to hold it down the best I could.

“After that it was just hanging on and then the home straight felt like it was lasting forever. The atmosphere was incredible and was such a fun one to race in.”

Sarah Calvert also ran a personal best in the mile event, finishing 27th in 4:40:98.

She said: “I’m very disappointed – I did not feel myself out there,” she said.

“I’ve had a bit of a tough past month or so, but I am so happy to just be here, trying to embrace it all and take in all the atmosphere. This is my first GB senior vest, so I’m happy to be here, but I wanted a lot more, and hopefully now I can reset and get stronger for next year.”

Robyn Love, Jude Hamer and their teammates in the Women’s GB Wheelchair Basketball team narrowly missed out on a medal at the World Championships in Montreal, losing out to the Netherlands 63-50. The men’s team were victorious in their bronze medal match defeating Germany 67-56.

The UCI Road World Championships are underway in Canada. Callum Thornley raced to an impressive 10th place in the time trial yesterday. The next Scot in action will be Morven Yeoman in the U23 Women’s road race on Thursday, then the men’s U23 Road Race takes place on Friday morning where Elliot Rowe is looking to make his mark, while his sister Melanie Rowe goes in the Junior Women’s road race for riders aged 17 and 18 years old, later that afternoon.

The Women’s elite Road Race takes centre stage on Saturday and the men round things off with their Road Race on Sunday.

You can watch all the action live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
