Angharad Evans lit the match on a massive final night in Tollcross for Scotland’s swimmers as she took her second individual gold of the week, this time in the 200m Breaststroke.

Touching the first wall in third, Angharad clawed back the deficit in the second length of the pool, cheered on by adoring home fans. Leading at 100m she never looked back, finishing nearly a full second ahead of silver medal winner Kayelene Corbett.

“I did not put any pressure on that race, when I put pressure on races I think that’s when I get too nervous and overthink it. What I struggle with is the unknown, just not knowing all these different factors of it. Taking the medal away from it, I just swam for fun, I turned at 150 and thought, ‘This is actually a lot of fun, I’m in pain but it’s so much fun’. I think that’s what got me to the end and that’s what got me this gold medal. I’m just so thankful to be at a home Games. Now that my individual events are over, I’m pretty sad, but I have a relay to go. It’s just an honour to represent Scotland.

“Hearing Flower of Scotland is unreal, I just look up at the crowd and look at them singing it and people waving their flags, just the smiles on people’s faces and knowing my family’s in the crowd – it just means the world to me to have their support. I think every other country should be jealous of the Tartan Army because they’re absolutely unreal. The support that they give us swimmers – they lift us up in the stressful and hard times but then they celebrate the good times. It was just such a special moment.

“In the hotel room today I was just praying that I would be able to stand at the top of the podium and hear the Flower of Scotland again. I’m so lucky that I got to hear that one more time, that’s why I took a minute to just look around and appreciate that environment.”

Keanna MacInnes delivered a stunning second silver individual medal of the week in Butterfly events, with a trademark strong back end taking her to a memorable moment in Glasgow’s East End.

Both Keanna and Angharad were joined by Katie Shanahan and Evie Davis to produce a brilliant silver medal winning display in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay. Heats swimmers Holly McGill, Anna Morgan, Ciara Schlosshan and Emma Wood will also receive medals for their efforts.

Toni Shaw matched her Birmingham 2022 result in the S9 100m Freestyle with a brilliant bronze at her third Commonwealth Games, helping to take Scotland’s overall medals in the pool to 12 – matching the total from Birmingham, and with more gold medals.

There was a sixth place for Matthew Ward in the 100m Backstroke, followed home by Jamie Ferguson in eighth. Dean Fearn was eighth in the 50m Butterfly before the night was rounded out by the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay of Matthew Ward, Archie Goodburn, Dean Fearn, Duncan Scott taking fifth place.
