Rest, recovery and hydration
Recovery is part of performance. Between sessions, make time for warm-downs, active recovery, refuelling and sleep so you can train and compete at your best.
- Hydration: it is easy to underestimate the conditions at a home Games. Glasgow can be warm and humid in late July, and assuming a cool Scottish summer may leave you less prepared for the heat than you need to be. The demands of training and competition – particularly in warm or indoor venues – add to your fluid losses. Drink regularly across the day, mainly water, with electrolytes in line with your sport’s guidance; in warmer conditions or with heavy sweating, drink proactively rather than relying on thirst alone. If you are sweating heavily or finding it difficult to keep up with your fluid losses, speak to the medical or performance nutrition team.
- Recovery: build proper rest into each day and protect it within a demanding schedule.
- Fuelling: see the Healthy Living – Dining section for nutrition guidance.
