Most sports come to the Games with their own athlete monitoring and wellness processes already in place, led by their own medical and support staff. We do not expect any sport to change the systems that work for it. The central medical team works alongside your sport’s existing monitoring rather than replacing it and is available for early intervention should something flag.
The level of monitoring varies between sports, and that is to be expected. Whatever your sport’s setup, please maintain regular contact with your sport’s medical or physiotherapy staff and report any change in how you are feeling, training, recovering or sleeping. Early identification and management of illness or injury is consistently more effective than later intervention.
All athletes and travelling staff will be asked to complete a confidential pre-Games medical questionnaire before the Games. This will be shared with you in due course, and it is extremely important that it is completed accurately. It helps us understand any existing conditions, current medication, allergies and ongoing treatment so we can plan your care and ensure continuity while you are with the team – and it is also how you declare medications and any Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs).
Your information is held securely and in confidence and is shared only with the medical team involved in your care, in line with data protection / medical confidentiality arrangements.
